'Covid isn't finished,' PM Modi said at a high-level meeting, calling for more testing and genome sequencing.

PM Modi, who presided over a high-level conference to evaluate the government's Covid-19 preparation in the aftermath of an increase in cases in China, emphasised the need of ensuring that the whole infrastructure is at a high level of preparedness.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned against complacency and said Covid-19 is far from finished, asking officials to beef up continuing monitoring procedures, particularly at international airports.

In a high-level meeting to review the government's Covid-19 preparedness in the aftermath of a surge in cases in China, Modi emphasised the importance of ensuring that the entire infrastructure is at a high level of preparedness in terms of equipment, processes, and human resources, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister directed officials to increase testing and genome sequencing efforts. On a daily basis, the states have been required to provide a considerable number of samples with the INSACOG genome sequencing facilities.

During the meeting, a presentation on the current worldwide Covid-19 situation was given. The prime minister was informed that the number of cases in India has been steadily declining. The PM recommended states to assess Covid-specific facilities to verify that hospital infrastructure, such as oxygen cylinders, PSA plants, ventilators, and human resources, is operationally ready.

During the conference, Modi asked attendees to adhere to Covid-19 standards at all times, particularly during the holiday season. He advocated for increasing preventive dosages, particularly for the elderly and fragile.

The prime minister was advised that there is an enough supply of medications, vaccinations, and hospital beds. He advocated keeping a close eye on the availability and costs of vital drugs.
