This lesser-known Mediterranean destination is becoming more popular in 2023.

Indeed, according to current research, it is one of the most sought-after Mediterranean locations for 2023. Tunisia has witnessed an extraordinary rise in airline bookings heading into the New Year, despite being frequently disregarded in a region where Italy, Spain, France, and other obvious choices. With the current financial instability limiting purchasing power, it's evident that vacationers are seeking for an alternative to costly Southern Europe.

Tunisia's prominence in the post-pandemic scene should come as no surprise given its year-round mild weather, large range of colossal landmarks, paradisaical beaches, and rich culture.

Despite being almost mainly identified with Europe, the Mediterranean Sea borders numerous additional Western Asian and North African nations, including Israel, Turkey, and even Syria. Tunisia, which is only 61 nautical miles south of the Italian island of Lampedusa, is likewise a part of that globe.

According to easyJet, a UK-based airline that offers low-cost flights to Europe and beyond, demand for travel to Tunisia has increased more than any other location on their map since 2019. While official figures have not been released, the airline has verified that Tunisia has surpassed all other Med hubs to take the top spot.
Overall, North Africa's Mediterranean coast has outperformed Europe's and Western Asia's. Vacation packages to Tunisia have been the best-selling product on easyJet since the Big Orange Sale began, with up to 20% discount on select flights, closely followed by vacation deals to Egypt and Morocco.

In addition to the easyJet estimate, the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT) indicated that over 6.1 million international visitors will come in the country by December 20, 2022, up from 2.3 million in 2021. This is a 159 percent gain over the previous year's data, and a faster recovery rate than many of the Mediterranean's competitors.
Europeans continue to outnumber Americans as visitors, but Americans have recently become more aware of Tunisia and its hidden wonders, especially since the country dropped all travel requirements, restoring normalcy after nearly three years of strict social curbs and welcoming U.S. passport holders regardless of immunisation status.
